Mattresses are bulky before they are heavy
A mattress can be awkward to turn through hallways, stairwells, and doorways even when its weight is manageable. Box springs, adjustable bases, and heavy platform components add different handling needs.
Describe the full bed setup rather than saying “one mattress” if the job also includes a foundation, frame, headboard, or powered base.
Donation is uncommon
Mattress donation rules are strict. Goodwill Southwest Florida lists mattresses and box springs among items it does not accept. Other organizations may have their own condition and sanitation rules, so confirm directly before transporting anything.
Before removal
- Strip bedding and remove personal items.
- Separate removable electronics or remotes from adjustable bases.
- Keep the hallway and stair landing clear.
- Tell the crew about bed bugs, water damage, mold, or other contamination before service.
- Check building rules for elevators, loading areas, and move windows.
